What is naturopathy in general?
The term "naturopathy" originates from "natura" and "pathos" to suggest a "natural healing". Naturopathy has its roots in the 19th century in Europe. Hippocrates was the first advocate of naturopathic medicine. The approach of natural medicine attaches great importance to a natural way of life. It largely waives pharmaceutical medicaments and treats diseases with natural medicinal plants. Naturopathy excludes technical aids and addresses the self-healing power of the body. Just like osteopathy, it also belongs to the field of alternative and integrative medicine. Naturopathic remedies include not only medicinal plants but also influences from the environment, such as the sun, light, air, earth, water, and cold. Physical aspects such as movement, breathing, and food also play an important role. Above all, however, mental processes have a huge effect on a person's health, for example, thoughts, feelings and will processes.
How does naturopathy work?
Naturopathy has a holistic approach to healing, too. It aims to bring the disturbed harmony of the whole body back into balance. The starting point for that is the power of the body to heal itself. Natural aids should activate this force and accelerate the process of recovery. While classical medicines often only suppress symptoms, natural remedies get to the roots and support the body in healing.
Methods of naturopathy
In addition to classical naturopathy, there are methods which require certain programs, preparations or therapists. Classical naturopathy uses five elements of nature (water, nutrition, light, air, and movement). For your health, it is therefore permanently important to maintain a balanced diet, to move in fresh air by sunlight and to consume sufficient fluids.
Naturopathic methods with detailed programs or preparations often last a certain period of time, for example, purification treatments or lymphatic cleansing. The internal cleansing of the body should help to remove harmful substances. Thus the body can invest its energy in self-healing again. Other methods of naturopathy require an expert and experienced therapist. The prescription of homeopathic remedies adapted to the body is just as much a part of it as a detailed nutrition plan.
