Have you heard of Mindfulness?

It is defined as engaging your attention in the present moment on what you are experiencing without judgment. It is a deliberate practice of moment to moment nonjudgmental awareness. Mindfulness can be practiced as a meditation, and it can also be a way of life.

There are different ways and techniques to practice mindfulness.

What is meditation?

The word meditation refers to the many modern and ancient techniques and practices that can settle the nervous system and train the brain to be more focused, engaged, and less reactive.

Meditation can also referred to a state of awareness that is experienced as result of practicing a meditation technique. It’s a natural state of consciousness. It origins can be found in the yoga tradition. Yoga means to join. It’s a practice of jloining ypur awareness to a particular focus.

What meditation is not!

Do you need an instructor to meditate?

An instructor and a group can be very helpful to get started. An instructor can help you with questions or techniques and support you to stick with the practice. From the experience of many meditators and my own, it is important to be consistent in order to enjoy the lasting benefits and changes. An instructor can support and motivate you, especially in the beginning.
