Experiencing the stages of perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause can be challenging.
That's why I reflected on the common mistakes women in this stage are undergoing.

Here are seven common mistakes and how you can avoid them, allowing you to benefit from shared experiences and holistic natural medicine knowledge. By learning from these insights, I hope you'll get inspired and take something away for you to optimize your health and wellbeing during midlife transition.
1. Ignoring Symptoms
Mistake: Not listening to the body and overlooking or dismissing symptoms like irregularities in the menstrual cycle, hair thinning, dry skin, hot flashes, weight gain, dry/itchy eyes, mood swings, low libido, gas, bloating, constipation, vaginal dryness or sleep disturbances as normal menopausal symptoms.
Avoidance Strategy: Listen to your body, notice body signals and symptoms, and learn natural tools to bring balance back. Because anytime you experience a symptom, you are out of balance. If you are in balance, there are no symptoms. Keep a symptom diary and consult an Ayurvedic healthcare professional for personalized advice and recommendations. Identifying and addressing symptoms early can improve quality of life and make it a smooth and joy-filled transition.
2. Neglecting Self-education and Awareness
Mistake: Many women enter perimenopause without understanding the changes their bodies will undergo. Suddenly, they find themselves in a whirlwind of changes in their body and mind and don't know who they are anymore.
Avoidance Strategy: Educate yourself about this topic early enough—using reliable, trustworthy sources about hormonal changes in midlife transition and physical symptoms, as well as mental, emotional, and spiritual changes. Practice mindfulness to enhance self-awareness, allowing you to get to know, understand, and tune into your body’s signals, language, and needs. Consider mindfulness meditation to foster a deeper understanding of your emotions and body’s transformations. Consult an Ayurvedic healthcare professional for personalized advice and recommendations.
3. Neglecting Mental Health
Mistake: Overlooking the emotional, mental, behavioral, spiritual, and psychological impact of hormonal changes in this natural, deep, transformative process. Most of our symptoms start in the mind and manifest in the body.
Avoidance Strategy: Acknowledge feelings and change. Seek support from friends, support groups, Ayurveda and/or Mental Health professionals. Mindfulness, breathing, yoga, and stress-reduction practices are beneficial during this time of change and transformation.
4. Failing to Manage Stress Effectively
Mistake: Allowing stress to accumulate undetected, exacerbating menopausal symptoms.
Avoidance Strategy: Engage in mindfulness practices such as yoga and meditation to reduce stress. Mindful breathing exercises can help calm the mind and reduce anxiety levels. Yoga, mindfulness, and meditation also help with sleep improvement. Ayurveda recommends regular self-massage with calming oils like sesame, olive or beautiful herbal infused oils to soothe the nervous system, ground you and bring stability back.
